The Game Cube Controller Mod - Joystick SwapPutting a PS2/PS3 Joystick in your Game Cube controller |
Supplies you will need for this mod. Tri-wing screwdriver Sand Paper Dremel Exacto Knife PS2 controller analog stick Game Cube controller (Any type will work fine. I just decided to use a Wavebird.) |
Step 1. Remove the 8 screws in the back of the controller and set them in a safe place. |
Step 2. Gently lift off the back piece of the controller. Set the front piece aside for now. |
Step 3. Remove the gray joystick. |
Step 4. Looking at the gray joystick's post you will see a little ridge on the top side of it. Slice this ridge off with an Exacto knife. After the ridge is cut the post needs to be trimmed down a smidge on the side so the PS2 joystick can fit onto it. A few thin slices from one side of the post are enough to allow the PS2 joystick to slide onto it. Go slowly, after each slice see if your PS2 joytick will fit on. You want a nice tight fit. |
Step 5. Inside the PS2 joystick you will see a stem that slides onto the post on the controller. Cut this down with a dremel. Doing this makes the joystick sit lower on the post so it does not bind in the Game Cube controller. I shaved mine down in little increments so I did not trim off too much. |
Step 6. Sand down the skirt of the joystick on a flat piece of sandpaper. Sand it down until it looks similar in height to the yellow C-Stick. |
Step 7. Position your PS2 joystick on the post and begin assembly. |
Step 8. Screw in all your screws except the 2 circled in the picture. All the other screws should be screwed in a bit loose to keep the joysick from binding. If the joystick feels tight and is binding up, you either need to adjust the height and skirt of it, or it the controller shell halves will close it means you may need to loosen the screws a bit. Overtightening the screws used to hold the controller halves together can cause the joystick to grab and bind up. |
