The Game Boy Color Mod - Let There Be Light !
Last summer I made these by purchasing a pre-owned Gameboy Color and a Gameboy SP from a local game store. Then I took the frontlight and speaker from the more modern Gameboy SP and installed it into the Retro GameBoy Color. While I had the Gameboy Color case open for assembly I gave it custom paint scheme.
The cool part of this mod is playing old school Gameboy Color games like Pokemon on a one of kind retro handheld.
I am no longer selling the frontlit Gameboy colors. I have a new mod I am making this year and it is selling rapid-fire, tweaked out X-Box 360 Controllers which you can see here.

Step 1. In this step you take the Game Boy Advance SP apart. Directly above and below the screen are some rubber paddings. Underneath theses rubber paddings are screws. There are 5 rubber paddings and the best way to take them out is with an Exacto knife. |

Step 1 Continued. After the rubber paddings are taken out of your GBA SP it should look like the picture above. |

Step 2. Using a tri-wing screw driver remove the 5 screws. (If you don't plan on putting the GBA SP back togther then these 5 screws are useless to you.) You can order a tri-wing screwdriver on e-bay. They are not a standard item at the tool store, |

Step 3. Gently Pull apart the GBA SP's screen casing. Inside should be the screen and its ribbon cable. The plastic casing can be set aside as it has no further purpose in this build. |

Step 4. Cut the ribbon cable connecting the screen to rest of the Game boy. The screen can be set aside for the next step. |

Step 5. This step is optional. In this step I show you how to take a speaker from your GBA SP and use it in your Gameboy Color. Skip to step 6 if you only want to front light your Gameboy Color. This step allows your Gameboy Color to be louder because the speaker from the Gameboy Advance SP is a better quality speaker. There are 6 tri-wing screws that need to be removed. |

Step 5 Continued. Once the screws are taken out remove the red outside plastic housing part of the Gameboy and set it aside. |

Step 5 Continued. There are a few phillip screws in the motherboard. Remove them so you can get acess to the speaker. |

Step 5 Continued. Take the speaker out and set it aside. The rest of the GBA SP is pretty much useless for this mod. Don't get rid of it though, in the modding world spare parts are always welcome! |

Step 6. There are 6 tri-wing screws on the Gameboy Color. 4 are in plain sight while 2 screws are hidden in the battery compartment. Remove them and store them in a container. These screws are important because they hold the casing to the motherboard. DON'T LOSE THEM. |
