Step 20. On one side of the black frame is rubbery sticky stuff. Peel it all off. |

Step 21. Once the goop is removed you will see a silver bar that the ribbon cable is attached to. The rectangular side of the ribbon cable is stuck in that little gap that's circled in white. Cut that gap to gently free the silver bar and the ribbon cable. There is a piece of plastic that sits in the silver bar pictured below. This is part of the front light you will be installing. It is not in either of the photographs here but you can see how it goes in the drawing in step 22. |

This is how it should look up to this point. The circled area is the spot where you cut to free the ribbon cable. |

Step 22. The plastic screen goes into the silver bar and those 2 pieces combined make up the front light. This drawing is very important. In the drawing above the beveled side of the glass slides into the metal bar while the ribbon cable attachment is on top. The bumpy side of the glass goes down. To find out which side is the bumpy side just run a finger nail across each side of the screen. You should feel a difference in texture. After you have determined the correct orientation of the screen slide it into the metal sleeve. |

These are the parts you should have up to this step. Your going to want long wire so it can reach all the way through the Gameboy Color. 5 to 6 inches is plenty to start out with. It doesn't hurt to have more than you need. |

Step 23. This step involves soldering. Taking your ribbon cable orient it so you can see exposed metal. Now solder your wires to each peg like the picture above. The top contact is positive and will connect to the battery source. The bottom contact is negative and will end up connecting to the switch. |

Step 24. Get some electrical tape and tape over your wires soldered to the ribbon cable. The electrical tape keeps the fragile ribbon cables from breaking during reassembly. |

Step 25. Postiton your front light in the gameboy and tape it down in areas where the tape will not show up on the play screen. |

Step 26. On the Gameboy Color motherboard near the bottom there will be 4 solder blobs. The top one connects to the battery. This where your 47 Ohm resistor needs to go. Solder your resistor to the top solder blob. (In subsequent builds I found it easier to solder this resistor into the middle of the wire instead of soldering it directly to the top solder blob.) |

Step 27. Take your Gameboy Color screen and lay it back down on top of the frontlight and secure it down with tape. Now is a the time to put your buttons back in. |
